Pet Population Ownership Trends in the U.S.: Dogs, Cats, Other Pets, 2nd Edition examines the idea of pet ownership that is inextricable from the American psyche. The vast majority of U.S. pet owners stand united in the belief that their pets positively affect their lives. More than 90% of dog owners, for example, agree their dog has a positive on their mental or physical health. This report examines this profound connection, as well as many more factors driving pet ownership.
This report discloses differences among pet owners that pose significant challenges to retailers pet marketers. The report also identifies the demographic trends that are most likely to benefit marketers retailers in the long-term. Packaged Facts analyzes these trends other characteristics of the pet population to form a comprehensive analysis of the U.S. pet-owning population.
Pet Population Ownership Trends in the U.S.: Dogs, Cats, Other Pets, 2nd Edition uses data on two primary sources. The first source consists of Packaged Facts National Pet Owner Survey, which reflects a panel of 2,000 U.S. adults. The second source of consumer data comes from the Simmons National Consumer Study (NCS) for Summer 2016. The report also includes data from the 2017-2018 American Pet Products Association (APPA) National Pet Owners Survey, which was fielded in 2016. The report also cites data from a September 2016 survey conducted by the Human Animal Bond Research Institute (HABRI) Cohen Research Group.
